LONG BEACH, Calif.—Four former Long Beach State Dirtbags will join Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde on Opening Day rosters as the Major League Baseball Season begins on Mar. 28.

Bryan Shaw kicks off his 14th major league season on the mound for the Chicago White Sox. Shaw appeared in 38 games for the White Sox a year ago. With an 0-0 record, he posted four saves and four holds in 45.2 innings. Shaw struck out 40 and walked 17. Shaw made the major league roster this Spring after signing a minor-league deal in the off season with Chicago.

Jeff McNeil begins his seventh season with the New York Mets. He is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he played a career-high 156 games. He hit .270 with 10 home runs and 55 RBI. He posted a .378 slugging percentage and a .333 on-base percentage and stole a career-best 10 bases.

Garrett Hampson opens his seventh major league season in 2024, his first with the Kansas City Royals. Hampson began 2023 playing for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The Marlins called Hampson up, and he would play 98 games in Miami. Hampson hit .276 with three home runs and 30 RBI. He stole five bases and posted a .380 slugging percentage and a .349 on-base percentage. Hampson signed with Kansas City in November 2023.

2024 marks the fourth season for Jarren Duran with the Boston Red Sox. Duran started 2023 in Worcester, the Red Sox's triple-A affiliate. Duran was called up in April and would play in 102 games before a season-ending toe injury occurred in August. When he was injured, Duran recorded 34 doubles, seventh in MLB. He stole 24 bases in 26 attempts and scored 46 runs. Duran hit .295 with eight home runs and 40 RBI last season.

Hyde begins his sixth season as the Orioles manager and was named 2023 American League Manager of the Year. Hyde's Orioles were only one of three MLB teams to win at least 100 games in 2023 (101-61) and the only team in the American League to surpass the 100-win plateau. The Orioles won their first American League East title since 2014 and reached the playoffs (as the No. 1 seed) for the first time since 2016.

Three former Dirtbags will be coaches this season. Bobby Crosby and Erik Martins will serve as the Oakland A's first and third-base coaches, respectively. Cesar Ramos is the bullpen coach for the Philadelphia Phillies. At the same time, Yosuke Nakajima continues as the Los Angeles Dodgers' assistant athletic trainer.
