Belmont Shore Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest Returns to Long Beach
Chalk artists from San Diego to Lancaster descended on Long Beach for a Second Street art showdown. The annual Belmont Shore Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest in Long Beach, California, took place on Saturday, with artists working on sidewalk canvases in preparation for the afternoon judging deadline. The contest, which has been held annually since 2004, is hosted by Justin Rudd and hosted by the nonprofit Community Action Team, and supported by the Belmontshire Business Association. The artists' work ranged from a Dolly Parton portrait to a tribute to jazz trumpeter Chuck Mangione. The event, which also included students from local high schools and universities, distributed at least $1,000 in cash prizes this year. In 2022, the event's prize list included $250 for first place, $150 for second and up to eight $50 honorable-mention awards.
