Long Beach's MacArthur Park overhaul breaks ground

MacArthur Park is about to get a big overhaul - the one in Long Beach, that is. This past week, Long Beach city officials began work on the MacArthur Park Rehabilitation Project, which will add new landscaping and amenities to the roughly $10.5-million project at 1321 E. Anaheim Street. Of that total, $8.5 million is being covered by state funds. The completion of the construction is expected in Summer 2025.

MacArthur Park is about to get a big overhaul - the one in Long Beach, that is.

This past week, Long Beach city officials began work on the MacArthur Park Rehabilitation Project, which will add new landscaping and amenities to the roughly $10.5-million project at 1321 E. Anaheim Street. Of that total, $8.5 million is being covered by state funds.

Among the new features coming to the 3.9-acre park are seating, play features, and a covered picnic pagoda within the park's play area, which will retain some existing equipment. The new features will have a Southeast Asian and Cambodian design theme, referencing the surrounding Cambodia Town neighborhood.

Plans also call for a new multipurpose green space, surrounded by a walking trail, as well as fitness equipment, a picnic areas, perimeter lighting, and landscaping.

Completion of the project is expected in Summer 2025.
